Composition
1. The Academy Board is a CPC board, and derives its authority from the CPC Session.
2. Board members are required to be active members of CPC.
3. The Board is comprised of the CPC Director of Equipping Ministries, a CPC Elder appointed by Session, and at least 3 parent or CPC member volunteers.
4. Board members are nominated by the Director of Equipping Ministries, SRVCA Elder Overseer and the Board President and are approved by CPC Session.
5. The Principal of the Academy serves as a non-voting member of the Board.
6. Volunteer board members serve a term of 3 years, and are eligible to serve again after one year off the Board.
7. Board members serve as president and treasurer of the Board, and serve as committee chairpersons of sub-boards.
Qualifications
Board Members must:
1. declare a personal commitment of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and regularly study God’s word.
2. declare in writing their unconditional agreement with this the Academy Charter.
3. have a common commitment to the principles and foundations of Christian Education in general, and the academy in particular.
4. have a good reputation in the community for spirituality and sound judgment.
5. be able to allocate sufficient time and be committed to regular attendance at Board meetings.
6. have an aptitude for, or special knowledge in at least one area of Board operation.
7. meet the biblical qualifications for church leadership as listed in I Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
8. be able to work harmoniously with others who may have different opinions, support group decisions, and have a willingness to serve others with love and humility.
9. understand that board members have authority only as delegated by the Board and not as individuals.
10. have a commitment to the proper place of biblical discipline for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
11. with the exception of the Director of Equipping Ministries, board members shall not be employees nor have immediate family members be employees of the Academy or CPC.
Meetings
1. Academy board meetings are normally held on the 2nd Thursday of each month (except July) at 6:30 pm in the SRVCA library (room 217). Confirm with the office or check for a notice or posted agenda if you wish to attend.
2. Special meetings of the Board can be held upon the request of the majority of the Board.
3. Regular meetings of the Board are open to the public except for certain confidential matters that may be addressed in a closed executive session.
4. Parents or friends of SRVCA are invited to attend. Guests are given the opportunity to address the board at designated times.
Responsibilities
1. Provide spiritual leadership and Christ-like model for families, faculty and staff.
2. Determine board policies in harmony with the governing policies of the Session and beliefs of CPC and submit any changes or additions to the Session for approval. Specifically the board will:
- Determine policies and programs that ensure the protection, health, and safety of students and faculty.
- Determine policies relating to standards of conduct and achievement and provide recommended outcomes.
- Determine policies affecting students and faculty and provide programs to meet their needs
3. Prior to Session approval, provide recommendations for hiring of faculty members, related salaries and benefits, and the annual budget.
4. Provide input to the annual evaluation of the Principal.
5. In partnership with the Academy principal and PTF, review and recommend a prioritization for the use of non-budgeted funds.
6. Provide input to the SRVCA Strategic goals and plans.
7. Develop and maintain positive relationships with Academy families, CPC and other valley churches.
8. Assist SRVCA in maintaining accreditation with ACSI and WASC.
9. Appoint, out of its membership, chairpersons or subcommittees, as it may deem necessary for the performance of its duties.
10. Support through word and action the philosophy, policies, goals and strategies of CPC.
11. Board is not responsible for resolving issues/concerns that may develop between the Academy and its’ families, faculty or staff. |
