Alumni News

(May 2010)

For 30 years, SRVCA has had a close-knit group of families.  We care about our children’s classmates and also the children we see in the hallways, at school events, and on stage at chapel or musicals.  We know their moms and dads and siblings.  Often when the older students graduate, we lose touch, but still care about how they are doing. We are interested in their activities, proud of their accomplishments, and care about their spiritual growth.  As the PTF Alumni Liaison, I have stayed in touch with our alumni throughout their high school years to find out how they are doing.  I have compiled all the information and will be sharing it with you over these last few weeks of school.

This alumni information is also a helpful resource for our eighth graders who are getting ready to begin high school.  A key component to a positive high school experience is to get involved.  This list will help our new graduates get ideas of activities, clubs, and sports that may be of interest and give them a friendly contact who can let them know more about the program.

I have included high school information from the last six years of Academy graduates (many of the leadership positions and awards are not received until senior year, so I am including the last two years of high school graduates).  It’s important to note, that this list includes all activities that the students have done anytime during their four years of high school. They might have done the activity for one year and then decided to move on to something else (high school is a great time to try different things).  I don’t want to inadvertently lead people to believe that our kids have to be involved in a hundred things to be successful.  Most alumni just have a few activities that they are doing at any one time.

SRVCA's mission is to “provide a Christ-centered K-8 education whereby students develop spiritually, academically, socially, and physically and are equipped to fulfill God's purpose for their lives”.  I think all of us would agree that the Academy does a great job of this as we watch our children grow and mature.  After seeing how well our alumni are doing, it definitely confirms that SRVCA is indeed fulfilling its mission to prepare our children well for high school and beyond!

This alumni information does not have every single alumni’s activities, but it gives a pretty good overview.  So as to not overwhelm you with all the information at once, I will send it out in sections over the next two weeks.  I have grouped the information under the goals of our school’s mission statement – spiritual, academic, social, and physical.  This week we will get a glimpse of how our graduates are doing academically and spiritually.  Of course, a list of activities doesn’t necessarily indicate where they are in their walk with the Lord, but it is encouraging to know that the seeds of faith that are planted and nurtured at the Academy continue to grow once they leave the four walls of our school!

Blessings to you and your family,
