Dear Parents,
After much prayer and consideration, and with overwhelming
support by our teachers, administrative staff, CPC Session and Academy Board,
we are implementing a major policy change to our school dress code policy for
the 2007-08 school year. Beginning August 27, the first day of
the upcoming school year, we will require school uniforms.
For many years we have struggled with the decision to
require school uniforms. Many have
wanted a school which teaches modesty by requiring appropriate clothing. Others hope to teach modesty in the
home, instructing children to make tasteful fashion choices. Here at SRVCA, we understand and agree
with both methods. We have always
tried to make clear our expectations for appropriate attire. Despite our daily and weekly efforts, we
have seen only a growing problem.
At SRVCA, we hope to train children in the way Jesus was
trained: “in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with God and
men.”(Luke 2:52) We want to
instruct our students to have Godly judgment and discernment even in the area
of fashion. We want our students to
be looked upon as models and leaders in our community, who are judged because
of their thoughts, convictions and appropriateness. We feel our changes to the dress code will
help us to raise young disciples for Christ.
Beginning this Fall (August 2007),
our students will be encouraged to purchase clothing from the Land’s End School
Uniform catalog or website (although similar clothing will be allowed as well). When you visit the website you will see
there are MANY options for students. However, we will limit our students to
wear solid-colored collared shirts and khaki or navy colored bottoms (or our
plaid option), as long as they fit the current dress code regarding
length. If you choose to shop
through Lands End, you will be able to make purchases with a special school
code, returning a portion of your spending to our school. In addition, the school “eagle
emblem” can be embroidered on shirts.
We will accept similar uniform clothing from Target, Sears,
Gap, or other vendors. We are encouraging a style not a brand. Please limit the pant/skirt colors
to navy or khaki, but polo style shirts can be worn in any solid color, as long
as it has no logo other than the official school logo (sold through Lands End). We ask that you familiarize yourself
with the Lands End style as it would be a good guideline when making more
specific student apparel choices.
