We focus on the individual needs of each child.

The nurturing environment we provide allows children to grow spiritually, socially, physically and emotionally.  Learning centers are extensively furnished with manipulatives, toys, and educational materials for the young child.  The curriculum includes exposure to Bible, pre-reading, language, math, music, perceptual motor and small motor activities.  Older children also receive instruction in Spanish, science, and nutrition.

Programs

Our program is designed to introduce the child to as many media of creative expression as possible, with emphasis on building the self image of the child. We want the children to grow spiritually, socially, physically, and emotionally. Learning centers are extensively furnished with manipulatives, toys, and educational materials to aid the young child. Curriculum includes weekly exposure to Bible, pre-reading, language, math, music, perceptual motor and small motor activities. Older children also receive instruction in Spanish, science and nutrition.

CLASSROOMS

We introduce children to several modes of creative expression with an emphasis on building the self-image of the child. Our classrooms provide a safe and fun learning environment that allows our Preschoolers to explore and create as they prepare for elementary school.

2 YEAR OLD CLASSES

ABOUT THIS CLASS

The Two Year Old classes offer children their first preschool experience. The Purple room provides a loving, nurturing environment where learning is developmentally appropriate and great fun. Our teacher-child ratio is 3 to 13 which allows us the time to give that much deserved one-on-one attention. Our curriculum is well thought out and implemented, yet we still have the ability to be flexible - changing direction to meet the needs of your little one.

Our day starts with plenty of time to play and explore the classroom. Your child might choose to paint, play in the pretend kitchen, build with blocks, engage with our assortment of vehicles, discover our freshly made play dough, or create a masterpiece at our free art table. The choice is theirs.

Since our little ones are away from home for perhaps the first time, we give plenty of hugs. However, we also work hard to foster independence. We don't do anything for the children that they can do for themselves. "That's your job" is often the saying of the day!

Our environment is loving but also challenging. At our circle time, our theme-based curriculum is presented in an engaging way. We begin with prayer and songs. Circle time will find us learning the numbers 1 - 5, shapes and colors. Each week the children enjoy a Bible lesson taught in an age appropriate way, stressing how much they are loved by God.

Learning happens in large and small groups as well as one-on-one. Our theme-based art projects are multipurpose. They facilitate creativity while serving an educational purpose as well.

A morning in the Purple room includes an engaging circle time, exploring art in a theme-based project and expending our vast amount of energy on our Purple room only playground. We define and develop our fine motor skills by using our pincher fingers to roll and squeeze play dough, by using tongs to pick up small objects, by tearing paper, or by stringing beads. We introduce the correct use of scissors, starting with plastic scissors for the play dough and grow into the use of safety scissors. It is important to move our growing bodies so our gross motor time might involve dancing, tossing bean bags, or crawling through a tunnel.

We love making music so we experiment with a variety of instruments. And we love to sing. It won't take long before your little one is teaching you all the songs we sing. A song book of lyrics will make its way home so that you will be able to participate in all our tunes at home.

Our desire is to partner with our families. We believe in building a bridge between home and school. The stronger that bridge is built the more naturally the learning flows. With a strong foundation of love and warmth coupled with a challenging curriculum the Purple room will provide your little one with a wonderful start.

3 YEAR OLD CLASSES

ABOUT THIS CLASS

A teacher/student ratio of 1:6 allows for our teachers to give personal attention to each child. The classroom is inviting and designed to introduce children to many modes of creative expression. The children can explore tables covered with educational manipulatives, puzzles, and free art supplies. Play dough and painting easels are always available. Our playground offers the opportunity for children to ride bikes, climb and slide, dig in the sand, and play with hoops and balls. Imaginary play takes place in and around our playhouses which have an ample supply of tools and dishes.

THEME PROJECTS

Every week there is a teacher guided theme project that corresponds to the classroom theme. Some of our themes include Farm, Fall, Christmas, and Sea Life. Children learn to follow directions, gather insight into the theme, and create a special project to take home.

BIBLE

The children hear an age appropriate Bible story every week. Big, colorful books are used along with the teaching of many Bible songs. The goal is to stress to each one of the children how much they are loved by God.

FINE MOTOR

This teacher directed activity strengthens children's fingers for pencil grip.
The children roll and squeeze play dough, use tongs for picking up small objects, cut with scissors, and string small objects.

MUSIC

The school has a talented music teacher who plays the piano and teaches the children many lively and engaging songs. Different songs for different themes provide constant variety, but old favorites never go out of style.

MATH

Numbers and counting are involved in everything that the children do. In addition, the children have a teacher directed Math Program which focuses on sets, sorting, identifying shapes, and the number concepts 1-7.

PERCEPTUAL MOTOR

The teacher selects activities which require the children to think and then respond using their large muscles. They participate in activities such as crawling through tunnels, tossing beanbags, walking like animals, hopping, jumping, and catching balls.

PRE-READING

The children participate in activities that help them recognize the uppercase letters of the alphabet. The Handwriting Without Tears learning kits provide resources for this curriculum offering.

After a year with our experienced and caring teachers, the children are prepared to move on to our Four Year Old classes.

4 & 5 YEAR OLD CLASSES

ABOUT THIS CLASS

Children in the Four/Five Year Old classes attend school on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday mornings, Monday through Thursday mornings or Monday through Friday mornings. Our inviting classrooms, with a teacher/student ratio of 1:8, are designed to encourage physical, mental, emotional and spiritual development. Educational materials cover the tables and are changed frequently in order to provide new exploratory experiences. The playground, which includes a planter box garden tended to by the children, offers the opportunity to ride bikes, climb and slide, dig in the sand, and play with hoops and balls. Imaginary play takes place in and around our playhouses which have an ample supply of tools and dishes. The curriculum in the Four/Five Year Old classes is an age appropriate balance of academics and play. The academics are presented by our experienced teachers in such a way that the children have fun as they are learning. After completing our Four/Five Year Old classes, the children are prepared to move on to Kindergarten.

THEME PROJECTS

New themes will be introduced in the classroom throughout the year. Some of the themes inspiring our projects include Community Helpers, Farm, Dinosaurs, and Ecology. Each week there is a new and creative teacher directed thematic project.

BIBLE

Every week the children hear an engaging Bible story often told with songs, props or drama. The children learn that God loves them and is with them all the time. Several times a year, we go to chapel to hear a Bible story presented by one of the church pastors. This gives us a chance to see a beautiful room of worship and experience the beauty of God's word in a new way.

MUSIC

While songs are incorporated in many of the curriculums, the children have the unique opportunity to meet each week with our piano playing music teacher. She has a wide repertoire of songs that go along with all of our themes. Throughout the year, we invite musicians from the church to share instruments with us as part of a music appreciation program.

MATH

Much of our math curriculum focuses on spatial relationships, shapes and numbers. The children engage in activities that involve the numbers 1-30. Functional math includes working with clocks, yardsticks, and money.

PERCEPTUAL MOTOR

The teacher selects activities which require the children to think and then respond using their large muscles. They participate in activities such as walking on balance beams, bowling, walking like animals, hopping, jumping and catching balls. Movement and rhythm activities set to music also are included in this curriculum.

PRE-READING AND LANGUAGE

Since the public schools are expecting more letter recognition when children enter Kindergarten, we have added a pre-reading segment in addition to the Language portion of our curriculum. In pre-reading, the children receive many opportunities to learn to recognize the uppercase and lowercase letters. The Handwriting Without Tears learning kits provide many hands-on activities. We also hunt for hidden letters in rice and shredded paper. Some sight words are introduced, and the children learn about word families. Our language program is a teacher directed time where the children have many opportunities to share thoughts and stories with the teacher through oral dictation. Our curriculum emphasizes both writing letters and recognizing the sound that each letter makes. Many activities are included which make learning our uppercase and lowercase ABCs fun.

SCIENCE

This is a hands-on time of learning where the children will explore such concepts as sink and float and magnification. Building volcanoes and launching rockets are some of the exciting activities.

NUTRITION

In our nutrition program, the children learn about healthy foods and how to prepare recipes. Eating the pizza, applesauce or fried rice that they have prepared themselves is enjoyed by all.
