Second grade Bible provides instruction on biblical insight to assist students in developing an adequate understanding of the greatness of God, in discerning man’s dependence on God, in recognizing God’s demonstration His love, and in developing a sense of responsibility and obedience. Students learn how to prevent and resolve conflict through lessons from The Young Peacemaker. A detailed study of Easter and Christmas gives students a greater understanding of God’s love and sacrifice for His followers.

Second graders work to become independent in fluency and comprehension skills. Student progress is evaluated daily, and students practice reading skills in both large and small group settings where they receive a comfortable level of instruction and are educated in traditional grammar and standard usage and mechanics. Students refine their ability to write clearly and effectively. In second grade, students build creative writing skills in a carefully planned sequence so students can write their thoughts in an imaginative and grammatically correct manner.

This rigorous program balances conceptual understanding with math procedures and application. Each lesson offers digital math tools, modeling, differentiation and real life application. Second grade math emphasizes the concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and their purposes in solving problems and creating order. Students build critical thinking and problem solving skills in the areas of counting, place value, addition and subtraction, problem solving, geometry, logical thinking, graphs, fractions, and measurement.

Students explore and experience in light of God’s creation. Topics include plants, natural resources, earth and sun, fossils, matter, and light. Second graders participate in hands-on experiments by exploring scientific concepts with their own eyes, ears, and sense of touch.
